West Deptford High School Band Parents General Meeting – 2/2/09

·         Call to order with Pledge of Allegiance at 8:04 pm.

·         Dee thanked everyone for attending.

·         Meeting minutes from January have approved and seconded by Rose and Maria.

·         Treasurer report given by Rose.

·         Fundraising

o        Kringles are running now.  They are BIG danishes – selling for $12.  There are good prices.  We decided to start earlier than originally planned so the money can be used for the Music department trip. 

o        Pops and Pasta

§         Need items for the basket auction.  Shannon will chair this committee.  If you have anything to donate, please get them to her.

§         Need people to sign-up for cooking, cleaning and food.  The sheets are going around the room. We need donations for salad and desserts.

§         Half of the money goes to the band and half goes to choir.

§         Choir is also doing basket auctions – Shannon chairs that committee too.

§         Tickets are $6 for kids and $8 for adults.

§         Everyone needs to bring a 12 pack of coke, pepsi, diet, 7up, sprite or water.

§         Bring cooked pasta with a little bit of oil in it to the pops and pasta.

§         Bags and pasta will be delivered to those cooking it at the next meeting.

·         Nominating Committee – 2 volunteers are needed from the executive board, Rose and Maureen volunteered.  Jim Monsu volunteered from the general membership.  Emails and phone numbers will be sent out via email.

o        Next month, the VP in charge of Membership will make sure the nominated people fulfill the requirements to be members of the board.

o        Maria’s position is going to be vacant.  She has all the fund raising info in her book and it is extremely organized.  We may be able to delegate some of her jobs – Heims and Sportswear if someone volunteers for the  position. 

o        We will take nominations next month and vote in April.

·         Mr Kershaw announced a new music teacher is in the department, Steve Kappre.  We are happy to have him.  He is a professional guitar player and pianist and has a degree in music education.

·         Next trip payment is due next week.  Cost will be $550 – 600 for the students and $700 for the parents.

·         How does the trip work?

o        Parents are NOT chaparones.

o        Parents are guests

o        Parents are not allowed to do special things for their child

o        You can room with someone that you choose

o        The children can find you and ask for money (and they will).

o        Parents are usually on the same bus as their kids

o        Next year – maybe a major trip – maybe
