West Deptford High School Band Parents General Meeting 3/05/09 · The meeting was called to order with the pledge of allegiance at 8:07 pm. · Sign-up sheets for Pops and Pasta are going around. · Meeting minutes were approved and seconded by Jill Cullen and Shannon. · Rose is out sick so we will not have a treasurers report. · Financially, the band parents are not doing very well right now. We need to do a lot of fundraising for scholarships, cavalcade, band camp and other activities. If you can think of some fundraising we can do, please let one of the executive board members know. · Fundraising o Kringles were delivered today. We sold 181. The amount that went into the general fund is $270.04. o We need to concentrate on upcoming events. o Pops and Pasta starts at 6 pm. Report time for all kids is 5:45 pm. o West Deptford relays are April 11th. We have done this for the last few years. This year the track parents would like to have the concession stand back. At this point we would like to suggest sharing the concession stand. Mr. Kershaw will get with Mr. Moore to see if he has enough volunteers and who we need to get in touch with for coordination. We will have a sign-up sheet for the relays next month. We may need some fruit and baked good donations. o Picnic – at this point we do not have Soupy Island for May 23rd. We cannot move it since the last weekend is the band/choir trip. We will look around for other places but, at this point there will not be a picnic. · There are no nominations for any offices. Next month we will take nominations from the floor. Maria will not be back. If no one volunteers, we will have a board without a VP of fundraising. We can delegate some of the responsibilities but, we would like to have a volunteer. We will have a vote next month. · Notes from Mr. Kershaw o May 25th is the Memorial Day parade in National Park. We might do 2 parades in May. o June 6th is the Wildwood parade. o The dates for Band Camp are 8/23/09 – 8/27/09. The cost is the same as last year, $245. o Pops and Pasta attire is solid colors, no jeans. o West Deptford band has been selected to participate in a Memorial Day parade in Washington, D.C. in 2010. One band from each state is in the parade each year. We have been nominated. We will try to get the school to help out with the cost of the trip. It is a 3 day/2 night trip. o Concert formats – may want to change them. We have 4 groups fighting it out for time in the music room to warm up. Kids and directors are both stressed out. We may want to split this into 2 concerts. The first concert would be Jazz lab and Madrigals, then concert choir and the band. We want to keep each concert to an hour and this will help out. It may not happen this year. Tentative dates are May 12th and 19th. o Teachers start 9/2/09 this year. Students start on 9/8/09. o Marching Band – big changes in the TOB. The ACC with be in Hershey Park town but will be a week earlier. Chapters will be the last week of October. No idea where Chapters will be at this time. We should plan on having it. § Sunday October 25th is chapters § Sunday November 1st is ACC. If we are a group II the ACC’s are on November 8th. § No date for the start of marching band yet. § A lot weekend shows next year (both Saturday and Sunday) due to the shortened schedule. § September 19th is our Home Show – we may have to move it to September 12th. § We are losing 28 seniors this year and may not have enough freshmen and others to make it up to a group III. § Freshmen jackets are still on order. o Motion to adjourn by Jill Cullen and seconded by Maria.
