Fundraising Report given by Eileen Mannion

Cheesecake sale ends this week, Delivery will be November 21st; cheesecakes must be picked that day – if any problems please notify Eileen in advance.

Citrus sale will kick off on Monday November 13th and end at the December 4th meeting. We are using Pee Jay’s in Swedesboro this year for our supplier, they are excited to have us on board with them so are charging no delivery fee and not requiring a minimum order. We are hoping for delivery the week of the Holiday concert.

Following the citrus will probably be a candle sale.

A Hollywood Night will be tried again in the spring; Donna Brocco would like to coordinate a Chinese Auction in conjunction with the Hollywood Night.

The Choir Parents are holding their annual Poinsettia Sale. They have a new supplier this year and it is comparable to the old one, the profit for each plant will be about $3.00.

Friday December 15th will be the performance of “Scrooged” at the Ritz Theater – the Madrigals and Brass Ensemble will perform, tickets are limited. Tickets are $12.00 each and profit will depend on sales.

Will try to find music department students that have “garage” bands to put on a Band Night again this year possibly in February. After marching band season, Mr. Kershaw will inquire if any one had a band that might want to perform.

October Minutes are posted on the web page, motion to accept as posted made by Gretchen Segado, seconded by Eileen Mannion.

New Business:

Philadelphia Wings (indoor Lacrosse) – the band has an opportunity to perform at half time at a Wings game. To perform at half time the Wings require the organization to purchase/sell 200 tickets. The face value on the tickets is $22.00; they are available to us for $13.00. A food package consisting of a hot dog, popcorn and soda is available for $4.00. Steve is proposing that we sell the tickets at face value and include the food package in that price. He said he would like to do this project as a shared risk venture. All people entering the Wachovia center must have a ticket including the performing group. If we are required to sell 200 tickets and the band utilizes 78 of the tickets that leaves us with the opportunity to sell 122 tickets at $22.00 each. Steve would like to initially pledge $738.00 to cover the cost of tickets for the band (assuming that we were to charge each performer $8.50 per ticket). If we sell 122 tickets that would cover the balance of the kid’s ticket cost and if we were to sell 155 tickets at $22.00 each it would totally cover the cost of the kid’s tickets. It is an awesome opportunity for the band to perform at the Wachovia Center in front of 14,000 – 18,000 spectators. The game would be on January 20th. Mr. Mulhall raised the question of why should we pay for them to go perform. George Bockius said that it gives us an opportunity to watch the game, watch the band perform and have a snack all in the same venue. Eileen mentioned that it would be an interesting/impressive addition to each child’s high school portfolio of experiences when listing them out for college applications. A motion to proceed with the initial expenditure was made by Dee Leonard and seconded by Mike Wyatt. A vote by hand show was held, there was one vote against and the remainder for going ahead with the Wings game ticket sale commitment. Majority rules in favor of the agenda item.

Play off Football game vs. Point Pleasant Boro this Friday Nov10th. This is a revenge game as they beat us last year in the playoffs. We will shop on Wednesday night; need help to pick up items at Sam’s Club anyone who can help should meet us at Sam’s at 7 p.m. It should be a really busy concession night.

Scranton – Parent buses will leave at 4 p.m., band buses will leave at 4:30. We will set up food buffet on arrival, feed the kids from 7:30-8:30. The kids will eat first then the parents/fans. The band will perform at approximately 10:40, awards will start at 11:50-and end at 12:30. We need hot food items to be brought hot, we will use coolers and pizza bags to transport the hot food to keep it hot. Help will be needed about 2 p.m. on Sunday to prepare drinks, cut rolls, etc. The band members have been granted late arrival for Monday morning – 9:30 a.m. Eileen will try to contact someone regarding ACC clothing purchases, has sent two emails to date. Steve described the press box to those who had not been in it before; it is an arc shaped room behind home plate; it holds 100 people, is heated and has its own bathroom.

Paulsboro football game will be the Friday night after Thanksgiving and is also senior recognition night. We will need additional volunteers to work to cover the senior parents during halftime. The Spirit Committee had decided that providing a cake to the football team from the band would be this year’s way of thanking the team. The football moms requested that the cake be given for the team dinner prior to the Paulsboro.

The choir Parents will be using the concession stand during the Thanksgiving weekend soccer tournament on Friday and Saturday during the day.

Mr. Kershaw’s Corner

Thanked the parents for their support at the Chapter Championships; it really helped get the kids charged up. It is a great feeling for the kids to hear the cheering from the stands.

School Board Policy allows for jackets for Championship winners; this win makes the band eligible for jackets, he is starting the request process.

This week is the final piece in the four month puzzle. It is possible for us to win the ACC Championships. There is lots of confidence in the judging community that we can do it.

On Thursday Nov. 9th the band will be rehearsing at Rowan University on the astro turf fields. It gives the kids the exposure to performing on the turf and provides an opportunity for Rowan’s Music Education students to have a mini clinic on running a marching band practice. Report time will be 8 a.m. on Thursday, practice will be 9-1 and the band will return to WDHS by 2. Students should pack a lunch.

There will be no rehearsal on Saturday.

Sunday report time will be 12 noon; the band will rehearse until 3:30 then load equipment and prepare to leave by 4:40. The kids should bring a lunch for after rehearsal. They will perform at 10:40, awards begin at 11:50, end at 12:30. There are 28 bands competing in Group III and 5 Invitational bands. We should return to school by 3:30, unload and be dismissed at 3:45. Students have a 9:30 late arrival time on Monday morning.

The Courier Post has been following the band since the Deptford competition and is putting together a story which will appear in the paper and on-line on Sunday November 12th. Courier post online.com is the web site for the on line paper.

Upcoming events, the end of the football season with performances at playoff games. On December 2nd the band is scheduled to perform in two Christmas parades Salem at 11 a.m. and West Cape May at 5 p.m. Last year when the band marched in the Cape May parade it was very pretty; lots of lights and neat things to look at.

New Business

Lisa Wolff reminded the membership that the majority of the executive board consists of senior parents and that new parents will be needed to take these offices in the upcoming year. If anyone has interest in assuming a position they can contact one of the board members to find out what their position entails.

Motion to adjourn made by Steve Keen, seconded by Maureen Heck.

Respectfully submitted,

Lisa Wolff
