Here is our guide to uniform care. If you have any questions, please ask.
#1 - This uniform is school property. The total cost of each uniform is approx. $550 per uniform. These are custom made for our band and cannot be replaced in a timely fashion. Any lost or damaged items may see a fine or finanical penatly for replacement.
Your student has been issued the following:
- Uniform Garment Bag
- Uniform Shirt
- Uniform Jacket on numbered hanger
- Uniform Bibbers (pants) on numbered hanger
- Uniform Shako (hat) - These never go home
All uniform parts are numbered with ID tags. This keeps your items identified as issued.
Mr. Kershaw has a complete record of all uniform item assignments.
#2 - While you are in uniform, you are constantly being observed. Your personal appearance and your actions represent not only you, but also your band, school, and community. The uniform assigned to you is a valuable asset to the band. You will be responsible for its care and maintenance. If something needs to be fixed or adjusted on your uniform, simply report it to a staff member as soon as possible. Your band uniform should be treated with the same consideration given your finest suit or dress.
- Jackets & Shirts do not require adjustments. They have been sized and issued to your student. Any students who feel they need sizing adjustments should see a staff member.
- Pants need to adjusted to your student's height. Inside the pants are lines of snaps. Please see the below video that does a great job of explaining the best way to get pants adjusted to the proper length.
Do Not Wash Jackets!
General Directions from our uniform company...
1. Garments made from 100% polyester - Garments should be machine washed in cold water, “clear and free” detergent. Drying should be hang dry or dried on a gentle cycle.
2. Small washer and dryer loads are recommended as colors will stay set much longer under proper washing conditions. Wash only a few uniforms at one time and use cool or tumble dry settings for drying. Polyester fabrics will generally stay relatively wrinkle free if cared for in this manner. Any velcro closures MUST be sealed before garments are placed in washer or dryer units. Velcro will cause abrasion and will pick surrounding fabrics if not secured properly.
3. Shoulder pads and any linings used for these products are 100% washable and will not shrink or fade.
4. Skip this one, we don't do this. Baldrics and gauntlets should be hand washed in cold water and laid flat to dry. Sequin products should be washed as little as possible and should always be hand washed using cool water. It is best not to attempt to clean baldrics and items made from sequins with chemicals. The delicate nature in which they are made could result in loose sections over time.
5. Stains on garments should be removed immediately with water or mild detergents such as Woolite or other non-chlorine stain removers. Heavy stains if allowed to set are most difficult to remove especially from white or pastel fabrics even though the materials contain soil release properties.
6. Always wash all whites together and all dark colors separately as well.
7. Avoid spray perfumes or hair sprays near sequin products as it will remove the delicate finish leaving a rough film on the surface of those materials.
8. Garments should always be stored in a well ventilated area and damp or wet garments should never be enclosed in a garment bag, especially vinyl or plastic garment covers.
9. If garments are damp from rain or perspiration they should be dried thoroughly in an open ventilated area before storage.
10. Do not under any circumstances iron or press. If the garments are wrinkled we recommend steaming the garments.
In these instructions G2 has made every effort to advise you of the need for extreme caution and careful care of all washable uniform products. We would suggest that a special committee be formed within your organization to take care of the cleaning of the uniforms as individual washer and dryer units may differ, so it is best to perform this cleaning with the entire inventory handled collectively. Proper hanging and drying of the garments is essential to insure the lifetime of these products. Repair of torn or loose items on these garments from normal wear, is the responsibility of the buyer and should be taken care of before these problems worsen. By following the above mentioned guidelines, your uniforms will have longer life expectancy and will serve your program well.
