This week we have a few events:

2. WDMS Performance (details below) on Tuesday
3. FB Sectional Championship on Friday

AMAZON PERFORMANCE
Student can wear casual clothing with band/guard jackets. Students without jackets can wear any jacket.  This is a relaxed event but we want to look as "uniform" as possible without uniforms.  Students should bring home their instruments after school today. Students will report directly to Amazon at 5:10pm.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PERFORMANCE
Tuesday, 11/19 - WD Middle School Performance (am) 
    The WDMB is traveling to the middle school. We will be performing two assemblies.
    => Percussion students are asked to report directly to the MS by 7:15am.
    => All HS winds and color guard are to report to the HS at 7:00am.  Students will then change into full uniform, load on buses and be on our way by 7:30am.
    => All MS winds and color guard are to report to the MS in full uniform at 7:30am.
    => GCIT students are to report to the MS in full uniform at 7:30am. 

THE WDMS performance requires the following permission form to be signed and returned:

IMPORTANT!
There are many performances including 2 possible football games and the Salem & West Cape May Christmas parades before this season is complete.  While our largest focus is usually on our TOB competitions, we must now keep up our energy and attendance until the end.  Students who do not meet these final performance obligations will not receive any band awards/honors.  This is not the time for students to disappear.  The full band has obligations and just because they are “only football games” students are not to schedule other events or create conflicts. Every performance is important and every member is obligated to be in attendance!

Hello WDMB,

This post is long overdue.  Over the years we have had a "common sense" approach to how the band handles the various weather conditions we confront throughout our season.  We start in the heat of summer and end in the cold of winter.  Through all of these seasonal changes, the band must be prepared.  Here is a basic guide for handling the cold.

BAND MEMBERS
Our band uniforms are wool and are designed to keep our members warm.  They wear pants and a jacket.  When temperatures fall below 50 we strongly recommend that students "layer up" under their uniform. Both the pants & jacket allow for additional layers underneath. When necessary, we recommend the following:

Inner Layer(s): Wicking layer (wool or polyester)

• Low profile garments such as thermal shirts and pants or Under Armour style "cold gear." 

Note - Avoid bulky clothes that won't fit under the uniform such as sweatshirts, sweatpants, & jeans.

• Winter socks

Note - Be sure socks are not overly thick as to cause their band shoes to be too tight.

Outer Layer: Insulated layer (fleece or wool)

• Wool Band uniform jacket & pants
• Band Shako/Band Gloves
• Ear covering/Headband (black)
• Scarves (must be solid black, green or white)

Don't forget to pack some Chapstick, EOS or other lip balm!


COLOR GUARD
Our color guard has different circumstances than band members as their issued "uniform" is usually anything BUT warm or protective. Due to this, color guard often abandons a uniform and moves into a preferred uniform look.  This includes band championship jackets or color guard section jackets paired with black pants.  This is determined by the color guard staff and color guard officers based on the upcoming weather situations.  We recommend the following

Note - unlike the band, sweatshirts or hoodies may be worn under jackets, but low profile cold gear is recommended.

These suggestions are a starting point for your consideration to keep your WDMB member comfortable and performing their best when in the cold.  There are certainly many options out there for you to consider.  Overall the goal is to keep the kids comfortable so they can enjoy the performance and not merely survive it.
